Cyber Security Services: combatting IT risks
Private data, intellectual property, cyber infrastructure – even military and national security. These can all be compromised by deliberate attacks, inadvertent security lapses and the vulnerabilities of a relatively immature, unregulated global Internet. Working hand-in-hand with clients such as KBC Group, Deloitte Cyber Security Services is helping organisations tackle these pressing and pervasive IT risks.
Cyber Security Services: proven methodology
Deloitte Belgium has developed a methodology for combatting cyber risks that is now being applied worldwide. First, determine the relevant threats to your organisation. Next, check which departments are vulnerable and determine which measures should be adopted where, and what budgets are needed.

This methodology addresses a whole range of threats, including data leakage, identity and access management, data security breaches, operational resilience and system outages, privacy, and application integrity. Through industrytailored solutions, Deloitte aims to enable ongoing, secure and reliable operations across the enterprise.
Controlling cyber risk at KBC Group
“Cyber security needs to be a priority for every employee,” says Jan Nys, Chief Risk Officer ICT and Operations at KBC Group. “As an international bank and insurance company, customers must be able to rely on us to protect their data at all times.”

The cyber security expert continues, “Today we have to come to terms with the fact that hacking is part of the online world.” He points out that the challenges for KBC, which operates in Belgium, and Central and Eastern Europe, are significant. “Phishing is still on the increase, with hackers becoming highly skilled at approaching customers and prying sensitive information from them. There is also an ‘advanced persistent threat’, in which fraudsters attempt to cause companies serious financial harm by conducting orchestrated attacks on their IT systems.”

Jan Nys explains that as KBC brings out new mobile apps and products that customers can install themselves on their devices, exposure to cyber risks increases. “It means our product and IT specialists have to join forces to create digital applications that are as high-performance and secure as possible.”
